Through individual and group therapy, we tackle challenges head-on. Our specialized services, including EMDR therapy, create a safe space for veterans to process trauma and find relief. Family therapy is also available, recognizing the broader impact of PTSD and addiction. Our expert team of psychiatrists, medical professionals, and therapists is dedicated to providing compassionate care tailored to veteran’s unique experiences.
Understanding Addiction to Drug & Alcohol and Substance Abuse in Veterans
Numerous factors can contribute to addiction among veterans. These encompass a family history of addiction, trauma, and co-occurring mental health conditions. While alcohol is frequently the overlooked substance of choice among veterans, cannabis, opioids, and tobacco are also used to temporarily alleviate distress. Veterans who’ve experienced active combat confront a spectrum of stressors, including:
- Physical injuries
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Reintegration into civilian life
Consequently, alcohol and other substances typically become coping mechanisms for managing these daunting challenges.
Initial Screening and Assessment Process
- Client/Veteran readiness for treatment initiates a discussion with the Admissions Team
- Sharing of personal story, struggles, and medications
- Prescreening process follows, subject to Medical and Clinical Director’s review
- Meeting with Primary Therapist for Biopsychosocial assessment
- Completion of assessment triggers development of personalized treatment plan
- Plan designed to cater to the specific needs of the veteran
